Create Funky Retro Wavy Text Effect In Photoshop
We are going to create a retro-colored psychedelic background, which we are then going to apply to some text. The purpose of this tutorial is to learn how to mask out an image so that it just shows through the editable text, making it friendlier to modifications later on. We will also work with layering textures to create a grungy retro background.

The Shutter and Aperture, Let the Sun Shine In
In order to get a picture that has the perfect brightness, not too light or too dark, the amount of light that gets into the camera has to be controlled. One thing that controls the light in the camera is the aperture. That’s what the light has to pass through before it reaches the film. The aperture opening settings are also called F-stops.

Using Manual Mode on Your Camera
Learning how to expose photos in anything but automating modes can start to get confusing. When I got my first digital camera (Ixus 75) I didn’t know much about cameras in general, let alone metering modes and correct exposure.

Photography Philosophy
Being an outsider to the photography world, I would like to pose a question:
Where does the artistry of ‘photography’ lie? Being able to take a great picture? Or being able to utilize post-production tools to make a good photo great?
Or are they part of the same overall craft and, regardless of where a person’s expertise lies, the final product is all they should be judged on?
I guess what I’m getting at is, how do you define a ‘good photographer’ and does that definition include their post-production skills? What if someone excels at the post work but can’t take decent photos? Are they still a ‘photographer’?
I know that’s a lot of questions in a small amount of space, but I’m curious what others think about any (or all) of these queries.

Making an Audio Book for my little one.
So I’ve thinking about it quite a bit and every time I listen to a book on CD or tape, yes I said tape, I think to myself I can do some of this myself. My little one is blind so we read a lot to her or let her listen to audiobooks, she’s 6 so it’s only kids books. Every time I wander past Barnes & Noble or Border’s, I have to venture in and pick up a book for her. On top of that others do the same. So needless to say, she has a large collection of books. I decided today to set up some of my recording gear. I thought, “how cool would it be to act out some of her books and record our voices will doing so. Along with recording our voices, I figured I could spice things up a little bit more with adding some real world sounds; cars, animals, music. Everything is set up and time to begin. I will post some samples once I have completed them.
My set up consists of:
MacBoo Pro 2.16Ghz, 3GB RAM, 120GB HD
M-Audio Fast Track Pro
CAD M179 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
(2) Yorkville YSM1P Active Bi-Amped Studio Monitors
(A little bit of my set up, nothing glamourous as space is an issue)

Wacom – Intuos4 Wireless
This I have to say is definitely on the top of the list of things to buy for myself. Wacom has always produced great products and not making the Intuos4 available in a Bluetooth configuration is awesome. Check it out for yourself, not much needs to be said for Wacom.
“The new Intuos4 Wireless pen tablet with Bluetooth® wireless technology lets you relax in your favorite working position or move about freely up to 33 feet (10 meters) from your computer. Enjoy the freedom of working “unattached” from your Mac or PC and reducing cord clutter.” Wacom.com
